The event will be run by the Southland Branch of the New Zealand Jet Boat Assn Inc. as a sub committee of the New Zealand Jet Boat River Racing Assn Inc., and under the rules and procedures of both that organization and the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM).

With the increased security measures around airports and airfields, access to 100 octane fuel is now extremely limited. In conjunction with a major fuel supplier, the organisers have arranged to supply all racing fuel for the event. To enable this to happen, and for it to be supplied at an extremely competitive rate, they have had to guarantee to use a set quantity of fuel, and hence it is a condition of entry that all competitors will source all their racing fuel from the events official supplier. This fuel will be guaranteed 100 octane. Any competitor wishing to use alternative types of fuel must notify the race organisers by 30 September, and obtain the necessary approval to source their fuel elsewhere.
Competitors are also reminded that the laws regarding the transport of Dangerous Goods (fuel included) in New Zealand require that the maximum fuel that can be transported in loose containers in any one vehicle is 60 (sixty) litres.
