Entrants how are they tracking just days out

Unlimited

John Derry
Bit of a rocky road for New Zealand's premier turbine powered entry. The boys have been frustrated with numerous issues as they swapped out the Rolls Royce gearbox in favour of a GE model. Simple swap "Yeah Right". But aided by SSS Engineering they are  on track however still searching for the last wee bit out of the big turbine. Current NZ 1 and two years in a row John and Brent will be keen to chase down the tripple and become the first ever to hold our coveted title three years in a row.

Rob Pooley
Loosing their engine in the Southland Twin Rivers race has seen the Pooley team frenetic in the build up. The big K has lost about  20kgs. It did not help when they ran up the  new engine only to find it making metal. Turns out somebody forgot to tell anybody what was clean and what was not. Back on track but now fighting the highly modified bottom Rob created is proving a challenge. They will be there and will charge hard they know no other way.  Oh and Rob solved the porpoising problem in the pre boating smacking a big rock near Chinamans Bluff. The rock is still there.

Chad Burns (Canada)
With a pocket full of credits from his main sponsor in Christchurch, CG's Club, Chad has reportedly been here preboating so long his canadian accent is under review. His Father has been heard saying the Kiwis are mad racing these rivers. Silver backs been out there too and wishes to assure Chads Dad the rivers are just fine. Chad will be racing a super quick Eagle powered by an AMS 600 cu in Chevvy, he hasn't come all this way to come second.

Dale Whiteside (Canada)
We welcome the owner of the Eagle race boat stable and highly competitive racer Dale and his crew. From what we can glean Dale is taking a considered approach to this years precursor to the 2013 Worlds. Dale is a very experienced campaigner and has been out here for some time hosted by Sam Strain preparing for the big event Silverback says keep and eye on this team.

Gord Humphrey (Canada)
Gords regular attendance to racing in NZ will see him well placed to put pressure on all the top contenders. Boat ready to go "Yeah Right" a quick catch up with Regan exposed the Orange 357 boat up on the stand with some serious tidying up going on. Gord's reputation for being one of sports hardest charging ,has no fear, drivers will leave the feild in no doubt he came here to win. The big AMS 600 cu in Chevvy is reliable and might see Gord on the podium. Pushing training over the focus now is on navigational excellence on the demanding Kiwi Rivers.

Roger Preston
If ever there was a Kiwi racer putting them all on notice its Southland's Roger Preston. He and his team have been quietly sneaking up on the field and Silverback would report Roger that this could be his year. Local knowledge will be a significant ace for this team so keep an eye on them.

Nick McMillan
Talk to this man and listen, he has a reputation for not talking s.... and be assured if he says he is going to do something he will! Patience has seen Nick quietly work the big Scott Robson designed boat up from the late 90's to an honest 110 mph. Make no bones about it, ably guided by  skilled partner and navigator, Chris, Nick is definitely here to post a result and should be spotted throughout the event.

Steven Shearing
After a rough run up Steven confirmed his entry and will be out to improve on his luck. The Southland Twin rivers race saw him drop his grill and he joined the elite group who can speak authoritatively about reversion! Silverback has heard the motor has been giving them the run around, but we would all hope  thats not true. Good luck mate if it is.

A Class

Garth McMaster
After a bit of time out the hi performing team of Garth and Phil are back doing it. The recent Southland races gave them plenty to work on. The wee 3.4 litre toyota is getting a ringing now and the super quick entry of A52 will not only be the one to watch but on form will be a podium finisher in class and overall

Paul Collings
The big fella shared with alll his abhorrence to work this week commenting on how he felt he was the only one not boating. Paul will be joined by his son in this campaign and everyone knows the tidy old Kwik Kraft is more than capable delivering fro Paul.

Ben Baxter

This young team will be one to watch if they stick with it. Ben has been pretty much placed in every event since he arrived on the scene. A heart stopping moment with an oiling problem during the week gave rise to a few concerns but Bens campaign is back on track as of Friday . Keep an eye on this team, they are sure finishers in class at least.

Ben  Quinn
Silverback welcomes this determined young North Islander all the way from Tauranga, who will turn up on Saturday ready to race and back himself to get through. Ben has certainly demonstrated speed and commitment ever time he comes out. The South Island rivers have proven a challenge but this could be Bens year

CX Class

This popular crate motor class sees all entrants running identical engines. These are  a factory remanufactured 6200 cc Chevvy engine developing 525 hp. The drivers will rely on skill and set up but history has shown you can throw a blanket over them during the race.

Darren Weaver (Canada)
Driving host John Derrys cx Darren is treating the race as an introduction for the prestigious 2013 Worlds. All the Way from Peace River in Alberta Darren will race hard and after strenuous pre boating will back himself to be on the podium. Welcome to NZ to Darren and hsi family and team and all the best for the race

Ryan Ringer (USA)
Us Kiwis are well familiar with Ryan he has been here before and campaigned the first ever Turbine powered entry in 2009, ably demonstrating what they are capable of. Ryan has his own CX boat here and the word on the jungle drums is it is producing a stunning 105 mph on the Lake in Queenstown. A special welcome to Ryan and his family

Tony O’Loughlin
Tony O has embraced the crate motor concept from the get go so after a period of slowness in booting it up due to knockers he was one of the group who had the confidnce to get into CX class
Tony quickly put the class on notice and the Silverback bore witness to Tonys blinder down the Clutha recently A stunning run. He'd be the first to admit the recent outing on the Oreti was not quite in the same league. Bushbashing on the down run saw Tony modify the immaculately prepared black boat. These are his rivers and Tony will go hard or go home, podium for Tony is my pick

Aaron Morrison
Mr smooth, Aaron was another who had the courage to back the class and is certainly our ambassador for the class. His near perfect run this season sees him now leading the interprovincial series with one race to go. Aaron is a very competent and measured racer and the Silver Back says he too will be in the winning mix..

Kruse Davidson
Near veteran campaigner Kruse Davidson loves the cx concept and is set to see amy years of fun racing. Kruse  will be disappointed the Waitaki was dropped but you can be sure he will be snapping on the heels of the faster boats. All the best mate.

Jason  Young
Jason is the new kid on the block racing the ex Sutherland Bros Keelow Kraft. Jason cut his teeth in the Thompson Team and has decided cx is for him, all the best Jason

FX Class

Similar to CX the FX class uses remanufactured small block Chev engines putting out 355 hp. Another fun competitive class relying on skill  (and fuel in the tank) . Unfortuantely with only two out of the known ten boats around competing this year the organisers may have to put these guys in a combined class.

Cameron Moore
Cameron must be looking foward to a clean fun run, the racing gods were not in his favour at the recent Twin Rivers race. A seasoned racer Camerons high expectations of himself will see him determined to finish clean.

Dwayne Terry
Racing his own built Keelow Kraft Dwayne will be the one to watch here. Not known for modest or considered efforts Dwayne will be hell bent on putting a Keelow Kraft on the podium. A bit sad to see him without his usual running mates in Turbo and Neil Ross but go hard mate.

D Class

Lex Thompson
Another long serving racer Lex is of the dying breed who will not see the old favourite D class mothballed. Always entertaining Lex will want to see his boat home safe and sound and hopefully clutching a trophy.

Jim Lapsley
A long time in the making, this year sees Jim finally joining us for a run. He too is determined to see D class retained, but with only the two entries  Jim and Lex may have to tough it out with the FX boys. Social racing or not we wish these guys the very best and safe racing.

At the time of beating out the message Silverback understands the Waiau will be running at 350-400 cu mecs which is 8 times higher than the last race. It will be swift, full of big pressure waves, and require a lot of skill and patience. The Oreti is running nicely but the restricted access has caused some angst and one has to question the exclusive use granted to fishers at the expense of other community users and groups. A very selfish and frankly mean attitude. Silver back happily extends a challenge to them all "Think not of selfish use think of sharing"
